For the last couple of years, my mother, sister, and I have met in beautiful Solvang, California for Mother’s Day.
Solvang is only two hours from my hometown and two hours from LA, so it’s a convenient weekend getaway. Plus, if you’ve never been, it’s a really quaint town with lots of wine tasting, food, and boutique shopping. My mom has actually been going to Solvang since she was a little girl and I used to go every other weekend for months during my All-Star soccer days. We love spending Mother’s Day there! Here’s me with my lovely mother (enjoying an afternoon beer from Fitzpatrick’s Tavern)!
Solvang is a Danish-American village that is flanked by wineries and farms about 30 minutes outside Santa Barbara. The town is filled with windmills, funky shops (like ones that sell Christmas ornaments year round and creepy moon lights), and Danish bakeries, which, obviously, I was excited about.
And, of course, all the wine and food. I grew up in wine country, so wine tasting is as familiar as riding a bike. One of our favorite spots is the Wander Dog Wine Bar, which has excellent wines and delicious cheese plates.
I bought a few things while there, but my favorite was this adorable bird ring!
I also had to bring home some treats — my favorite pastry is the cinnamon swirl! And since it was Mother’s Day, I made my mom these chalkboard garden labels (she has a big, awesome garden). Complete with tiny pot!
It was so nice to spend some quality time with my beautiful mother.
I hope you all had an amazing Mother’s Day!
